This is probably more of a rant than a diary - or maybe even a 'things that make you go hmmmmm' topic. But here goes anyway.
First, let me say that I understand that John Doe representative is ultimately responsible to the people in his district and needs to be available to them.
However.......... When these same representatives
- Hold National positions such as Speaker of the House, Majority leader, Whip, Minority Leader or various Committee Chairmanships etc.
- Run a National Campaign - collecting money from citizens and businesses from the whole country.
- Appear on National TV shows promoting their vision (twisted or otherwise) for ALL of us.
- Take actions and make decisions on things that affect ALL of us.....
Then they are obligated to be available via email to all of us. They are obligated to hear what we think of their position on those topics that affect us. They are obligated to listen to the people who paid into their campaigns or.......
Perhaps the Campaign Finance Laws need to be written so that campaigns can only be funded by money from the citizens and businesses that are legal residents of the politician's district. ?!?!
Think about it - it sure would cut down on 'undue' influence. It would cut down on the cost of elections and allow more time for the politicians to actually legislate - you know the job they were 'hired' to do. And finally it would make them truly beholden to the residents of their districts and not to outside influences.
Call me naive, call me idealistic even but when they decided to go national - they gave up their right to hide behind firewalls and zip code blockers etc. When they decide to mess with my Social Security, Medicare, Health care, Highways, borders, LIfe - then they owe me a pound of flesh and should have to accept my opinion whether they like it or not.
