Do you know what scares politicians, captains of industry and other authoritarians the most? It is not some rival usurping their power. No, the thing that scares them the most is people sitting down together and deciding how to run their lives for themselves. You see, the big lie that all these powerful people tell themselves is that we, the 99%, are weak and helpless without them. That is why they deserve so much: we need them.
But do we really?
I think that the Occupy movement proves that we do not need leaders. We do not need a hierarchy. We can talk amongst ourselves, ignoring anyone who thinks of themselves as a leader, and decide how to fix our own problems.
This is known as "anarchy" which means "no Archons" or no rulers. It does not mean "no government," which would be termed Anocracy in Greek. As long as there is no hierarchy, it is anarchy. See how the words are related? A consensus based decision making process means there will never be rulers, and thus consensus is crucial to anarchism.
OWS is real anarchy in action, and real anarchy, as opposed to the pretend anarchy of mob violence, is what the authoritarians fear most. When an authoritarian is beaten by another authoritarian, at least the authoritarian way of life prevails. The loser is still seen as "better" than the 99%, he was a leader. Being a failed leader is still better than being a successful peon in authoritarian eyes.
But what happens when the anarchists win? We destroy their way of life, and the belief system they have built. When anarchists win, history will remember the authoritarians as the sociopathic monsters they really are. If we win, they all lose, forever.
And that is the scariest thing in the world to them. We will rewrite their false history with our truth: we never needed them. They were lying to themselves to justify their actions. They are monsters, sociopaths and leaches.
The OWS movement does not need leaders and it does not need clear cut goals, yet. What it needs is a consensus based decision making process and a lack of hierarchy. Anyone can participate, and by participating, they will learn that the leaders, ALL leaders, have been lying to them all along. The longer this goes on, the more people have a real chance to talk with each other and figure these things out for themselves. And that scares the living piss out of the powers that be.
