For years all I have heard about is how liberal the media is. The problem for me is that I have never seen the evidence for such a liberal bias. And I have looked. I have researched. All I have found is that those making the claim that the media is liberal are either biased themselves or just flat out lying. My full thoughts below.
As the "Occupy Wall Street" not only continues in New York it is also beginning to gain strength around the country. There is just one huge problem with this movement. That media does not really give a damn. They are not covering it, period. They are not even covering the arrests. Do a simple Google search of the news about OWS and it becomes painfully obvious that the only media covering it are websites (such as Huffington Post and local media outlets) and the print media. You will not find one single news article from any of the major outlets (CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS).
It got me to thinking; these are the same organizations that covered every single TEA Party rally, whether there were thousands in attendance or less than a hundred. These are the same organizations that covered the protests in Wisconsin (only after Republicans got involved and started calling teachers thugs for protesting). These are also the same organizations that only covered the protests in Egypt after Republicans voiced their support for Mubarek.
I think you can see the common thread here. In most of the protests that the media covered ad nauseum Republicans were involved voicing their opposition to the protests or actually holding the protests themselves. What also sticks out to me is that if Republilcans were against the protests, the media typically put a negative spin on the protests. If the Republicans supported the protests or were involved there was typically a positive spin by the media. Need further proof? Take for example the TEA Partiers that interrupted town hall meetings, refused to let others speak, and booed anyone who disagreed with them regarding the Health Care debate. Those protestors were generally regarded in positive terms and as voicing their American rights to free speech. We fast forward to the same type of activities now, except the Congressmen are Republican and people are demanding to know where the jobs are (you know, when Republicans actually show up to the town halls instead of canceling). When the media DOES report on these town halls there is typically a negative tone.
Republicans are holding the narrative on the media today. Typically whatever they say the hot topics are the media follows. When they want a story ignored (OWS) the story is ignored.
My THOUGHTS:
We have been told for years that the media is liberally biased by those that actually know that if anything that media has a conservative bias. Though this message has been continually brow beat into us the message has never been actually for us. They know we know that the media is not liberally biased. They also know that as long as they hold the narrative there is literally nothing we can do convince people that the media is not liberally biased. No, the message is for weak minded conservatives. The ditto heads of Rush Limbaugh, the blind followers of Glenn Beck, the believers of anything that comes out of Sarah Palin's mouth. The message is meant for them, because Republicans not only know that these people will believe this fabricated lie, they also know that these people will regurgitate this lie without checking it out first. The weak minded Republican (also known as a TEA Partier) will believe anything that a Republican tells them (death panels anyone? Iraq was involved in 9/11?) and as long as the Republicans have them in their corner events like Occupy Wall Street will continue to be ignored by the main stream media.
