I’ve been lucky to know Gabby Giffords for almost 5 years now. We entered Congress at the same time in 2007 and we became fast friends. I saw in her an intelligence, an empathy and a fire that I always admired and still do. Her dedication to public service is unparalleled and I’m proud to call her my friend.
When Gabby was shot earlier this year, it was truly one of the darkest days of my life but even as reports came in saying she didn’t make it, I never believed them. I knew Gabby was a fighter and I knew that if anyone could make it through this, Gabby could. And amazingly she did.
Gabby’s courageous fight to survive the tragic shooting in Tucson has been an inspiration to all of us. In just 10 months, Gabby has made incredible progress and every time I see her now, she’s stronger than the time before. I am more confident than ever that she will return to Washington to serve Arizona’s 8th district again next term, but I need your help to get her there.
I have no doubt that when she returns to work, Gabby is going to face a tough re-election next year, just as she did in 2010. But right now, Gabby needs to put all her energy into her recovery. That’s why I’m asking you to contribute what you can to help her build her campaign war chest. Anything you can give will help ensure she has the resources to win and return to Congress where she’s so badly needed.
Gabby is one of my closest friends, and all I want is for her to be back with us as healthy and strong as she was before the shooting. That’s why I’m taking it upon myself to help her raise the funds she needs for her re-election so that she can concentrate on the even more challenging task of rehabilitation.
Watching Gabby triumph over adversity has given me the strength and courage to keep up the fight in Washington and I am confident that soon she’ll be back fighting by my side. Thanks for helping to make that a reality.
