Corporate profits increased $61.2 billion in the second quarter of 2011 while the taxes on that income decreased $1.8 billion.
Bank of America reported $6.2 billion in profits in the third quarter of 2011. They announced plans to layoff 30,000 workers and charge customers $5 a month for debit card transactions in the last few months.
The Supreme Court ruled limiting corporate spending on political speech was unconstitutional. Individuals can only contribute up to $2,500 to a candidate per election.
The top one percent of Americans had an income of $1,319,700 in 2007. Fifty percent of workers made less than $26,234 last year.
