I've been going to the planning meetings since last Thursday, and I'm really stoked that Occupy SLC is kicking off tomorrow!
I was ridiculously happy to discover that SLC was planning an occupation when I went to OccupyTogether.
After the first meeting, where we formed rather spontaneous groups to work on planning (since we only had a week to do it), we started getting organized, working across groups to get things set up and done. Street teams got together to distribute flyers and put up posters. We started a flickr for all our pictures and pictures of other occupations. We have our website up and going, and it's got a bunch of info on it.
I've walked around Salt Lake handing out flyers and talking to businesses, and it's so awesome to see local businesses being totally enthused about what we're doing. It's great to talk to people living in the park and have discussions about the movement with them ... just like it's great to talk to a guy in a very expensive suit, tie, shoes, and watch, and see that he agrees with what we're doing, too. It's awesome to drive around town and see the fliers everywhere. It's fantastic to watch this all come together, and I can't even articulate how excited I am for this all to kick off tomorrow.
For any Utah folks, we're meeting at 10 at the State Capitol and then marching along through town to Pioneer Park, where we're initially setting up. There's also one more planning meeting tonight in the public amphitheater behind the Salt Lake Library from 8-11. :)
I plan on updating about the occupation as much as possible. :D
