As an American citizen who for years took for granted most of the rights afforded to me within the 'Bill of Rights' I would like to say, the time for inaction on my part and most other Americans is over. I have been inspired (especially over the last year) by the actions that have taken place in Madison, WI and recently New York City involving thousands of citizens standing up and exercising the most basic right we as citizens have and that is to peacefully assemble and protest against the injustices that the 99% have had to endure.
More below the fold.
As a US citizen I have been afforded rights that up until recently I had never really paid much attention to or exercised for that matter. Well, that all changed in 2008 when a co-worker started to talk about the upcoming election and how screwed our country was going to be if we let these crazy ass republicans win. He had sparked something inside of me that still burns to this day. He ignited my desire for change. After surviving 8 years of the Bush regime I was ready to start acting like a true patriotic citizen of this republic. After reading about and researching everything I could find about the soon to be president, I ended up casting my ballot for him in the 2008 election and thought we were going to get this country moving again. I had high hopes that we would see "change we can believe in" that had been promised during the campaign but I was about to be let down. Big. Time.
I had remained patient over the first two years of President Obama's presidency but I began to have serious reservations about the choice I had made 2 years earlier when he started appointing members of the financial community (who had played a major hand in blowing up our economy) into senior or advisory positions. I also, became wary when he expanded on President Bushes Anti-American, Anti-Constitutional policies regarding our freedoms. I know that Obama was the best choice at the time, but that doesn't mean I had to be happy about it.
I get it now.
We as 99%ers needed for that election to happen. It opened our eyes to the fact that the fate of our democracy depends on more than just showing up to vote on election day. It depends on more than just heading to an elementary school, pulling a lever and heading back home to our couches while we wait for change to happen.
I believe that all of these events over the last few years was what this country honestly needed. We needed to have our freedoms relentlessly attacked from all sides so that we could see the value that they provide to us. This is a huge moment in our nations history this will not end until we see actual, verifiable, positive change.
We have grown tired of sitting on the sidelines while the 1% steals everything not nailed down to the floor.
We are tired of slick politicians who promise change and never deliver.
We are tired of the corruption within our government and corporate boardrooms.
We are tired of losing our homes.
We are tired of losing our jobs.
We are tired of losing our savings.
We are tired of going without affordable healthcare.
We are tired of having trust fund babies tell us that they worked hard for their money.
We are tired of our crumbling infrastructure and collapsed bridges.
We are tired of politicians who say they will fight for us and then do nothing but fight against us.
We are tired of outsourcing all of our good jobs to people in other countries.
We are tired of the mainstream media not reporting facts and feeding us bullshit.
We are tired.
We are tired and we are about to see a major change in this country. I just hope its the change we've been looking for.
Thanks for reading everyone. Take care!
We are the 99%
The corrupt fear us.
The honest support us.
The heroic join us.
