Herman Cain says "never mind" (Eric Thayer/Reuters)
One day after the Herman Cain campaign
tried to deflect media attention from Cain's sexual harassment saga by blaming a Rick Perry staffer for leaking the story to the media, they're now saying,
never mind:
Cain campaign manager Mark Block said on Fox News today he accepts the denial of Perry strategist Curt Anderson, who Cain previously said leaked the allegations to the news media.
Well, that's mighty big of him. And apparently this means that the Perry campaign won't have to "apologize to America," as Block was insisting 24 hours earlier. But to be fair, who could blame him?
"All the evidence we had pointed to Mr. Anderson being the source," Block said on Fox News.
That evidence being Cain suddenly remembering a conversation he had with Anderson eight years ago—and as we all know, when it comes to remembering the details surrounding accusations of sexual harassment, Cain's mind is like a steel trap.
At any rate, the Cain campaign is now "thrilled" that Anderson denied their lame attempt to change the subject and are willing to let bygones be bygones.
But none of that changes the fact that Cain still believes he is being targeted from "the left or the right" and that:
There are factions that are trying to destroy me, personally, as well as this campaign.
The only faction not to blame in Cain's mind is the one responsible for $80,000 in sexual harassment claims being paid out: Herman Cain.
And coming tomorrow in the worst case of damage-control in political history, the National Restaurant Association will decide if they will allow one of Cain's accusers to issue a statement in response to Cain's dismissal of her sexual harassment claims as being "baseless."
Popcorn futures are skyrocketing.
