Hey Fellow Zoneys,
This is a call to action. Pick up your phone.
You've probably heard about the redistricting mess here in our state. Well, the Acting Governor Ken Bennett (Brewer's out of town, don't ask) needs to hear from you. He can be reached at 602.542.4285. Be nice, but let them know you don't support a special session to impeach Democratic and Independent members of the Redistricting Committee. Call your State Senator also. You can find your State Senator here.
Talking points below the fold.
The Republicans have been complaining almost from day one of the Redistricting Committee's existence that they've got a raw deal.
Here are the facts:
The proposed Congressional map creates 5 districts safe for Republican, 2 safe for Democrats and 2 competitive districts. It's hard to see how the Republicans have been disadvantaged.
The proposed map of the legislative districts has 17 of 30 districts safe for Republicans.
The partisan distribution of Arizonan voters is roughly 30R/30D/30I. The proposed maps treat Republicans more than fairly.
The 2000 initiative that created the Redistricting Committee deliberately took the redistricting process out of the legislature's hands. The legislature should respect the voters mandate.
