Finally, I have internet service again! I lost internet service on Wednesday afternoon and did not have it back until late this afternoon. In the midst of not having internet, I have had time to think.
I did not realize how much I would miss my internet connections. I use social networking to connect with friends from across the state. I am secretary of our band booster organization, and one of my responsibilities is to send mass e-mails to parents. I use a required program for work to write evaluation reports and individualized education programs.
And I also missed this place—a lot.
Daily Kos is an important connection for me. I am married to a conservative, the people in my neighborhood are conservative, and the people at work are conservative. This site is a big connection for me to hear the rest of the world and to feel at home with people. I will probably never get a chance to physically go to Netroots, to Occupy, to Protest. When I was first married 26 years ago, it would have not been a big deal; but my husband has bought into the crap on the radio. So, to preserve our marital peace, we have an uneasy truce. I read blogs, contribute, share information, vote; but I do not physically go places. He listens during the day, but he does not subject me to his conservative nonsense during the evening. It is not ideal, but it works for now.
So, it is good to be back. To read about Occupy, unions, the hypocrisy of conservative Republicans, fights for the rights of others—it is a gift to many of us.
Even more of a gift is the gift of community. I found out that Sara R is 55, saw beautiful pictures of the Ninepipe National Wildlife Refuge, learned about Living Pagan, enjoyed artwork on A Lazy Day, checked out recommendations for diarists, heard from a Small Town Girl, and watched a pie fight!
So what’s up with all of you? What have I missed? I am enjoying a free bottle of wine tonight—not great wine, but OK. A woman I work with uses wine bottles to make cheese and cracker servers. She needed volunteers to drink wine, as she is making several cheese and cracker servers that someone is paying her to make as gifts for an upcoming wedding.
Thanks for all you do in this community. It means the world to me!
