This past Friday night at approximately 11:00pm (yes, 11/11/11 @ 11pm!) Freedom Square was swept clean. In the aftermath there were 27 arrested, 1 taken to the hospital due to a siezure, 50-some-odd tents destroyed and several truckloads of pallets taken away.
Please join me further below the double-ampersands.
I got back down to Kiener Plaza around 3am with blankets, pillows and a sleeping mat for anyone that decided to stay on the sidewalk in front of the Plaza. The police were still there and were kind of upset with my blaring the horn that early in the morning. After stating that I was pretty sure that nobody was still asleep at that point (got a couple of chuckles from the officers at that one), my cargo was dropped off at teh front of the plaza. I ended up leaving with all but one other person at 5am to head home with some artifacts of the Protest; the Occupy St Louis Solidarity banner, a sturdy folding table and the rack of flyers.
After getting a few hours of sleep (and convicning my wife not to be too angry with me for taking so long to get back home) I was back again at the Plaza to drop these items off. I got there just in time to hand the banner off to the folks that were marching down to the 'Injustace' Center to show support for those who were incarcerated.
By Sunday all had been bailed out. This time it seems that the city allowed bail to be posted. A legal fund has been started, more info on this can be found on the OccupySTL Facebook page.
