Throughout his time in Congress, my area's disgrace of a congressman, Pete Sessions (TX-32) has proven to be a fiscal conservative...except when it comes to supporting financially and morally irresponsible tax cuts for the richest 1 percent.
Sessions' latest post on his congressional website proves that he does not want to come to terms with this ultimate truth-- his claim to be a fiscally responsible Republican is as true as saying that Al Capone championed law and order or that Bernie Madoff really cares about those who invested in his schemes.
And if you look at his list of donors, it's no wonder why Sessions has been so interested in protecting the 1 percent-- and their tax breaks-- at the expense of everyone else.
More below.
Here's part of Sessions' remarks responding to the defeat of a proposed balanced budget amendment that he supported:
“Today the House had the opportunity to move forward on a common-sense, permanent solution to our nation’s spending-driven debt crisis. Unfortunately for the American people, House Democrats reaffirmed their commitment to fiscal recklessness and rejected requiring the federal government to do what hardworking Americans do every day: balance a budget.
“As another harsh reminder of the need to get our nation’s fiscal house in order, our national debt surpassed $15 trillion this week – over $4 trillion more than when President Obama took office. For far too long, Democrat-led Washington has spent too much, taxed too much and borrowed too much. The American people deserve better than their leaders continuing down the same path of unsustainable policies.
The harsh fact that Taliban Pete left out of his statement was which party drove our nation's economy to the ground by railroading tax cuts for the richest 1 percent at the expense of everyone else while fighting a wrong-headed war in a nation that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks.
Taliban Pete may want his constituents to gloss over this, but it was he and his fellow Republicans both in Congress and the White House who rammed these policies through when they were in power.
Once they realize this and the disastrous results they have brought on the American people, I hope my area will finally realize that Sessions has been wrong for our area, wrong for Texas, and wrong for America.
And if you didn't know before that Sessions was all for the 1 percent and protecting their tax breaks at the expense of everyone else, here's a partial list of his donors as disclosed by Open Secrets:
1. Koch Industries -- $10,000
2. AT&T-- $10,000
3. Pfizer Inc.-- $10,000
4. Bank of America-- $7,500.
With donors like these, it's no wonder Sessions is not interested in serving the rest of us. It's long past due that he is removed from office.
I hope at some point, Sessions will, like other Republicans, get "mic checked" by those who have been victimized by his malpractice against them.
