A friend and I were having a conversation in the kitchen tonight about #OWS, and it went something like this...
This would not have happened without Wikileaks reminding us of the every day lies our government tells us, tells other governments, tell itself.
This would not have happened if a vegetable vendor in Tunisia had not set himself on fire to protest the daily humiliation of the poor, leading to the overthrow of three dictatorships and shaking several more to their roots.
This would not have happened if a young lady in Israel had not camped out on a road median to protest the cost of living that turned into the largest protest in the history of Israel.
And especially, this would not have happened if a young man named Markos Moulitsas had not started a blog. A blog started in a dark hour of despair for our democracy, our nation, and our planet. A blog that has turned into a giant community (pie fights and all) where we can report the truth. Where we can give each other a helping hand. Where we can talk each other through our darkest personal moments, that we can shine when our moment comes to lead the charge (just look at Ministry of Truth!).
So thank you Markos! Thank you Mohammed Bouazizi. Thank you Shay Soffer. Thank you Tunisia, Egypt, New York, and Oakland. It's class warfare now because we are fighting back!
