... even with that extra one. Photos, but not much text for you.
We were at the cabin and I thought about making a quick trip down to Big Sur to see if I could spot some condors, but didn’t feel like wandering quite that far, so I did a little coastal loop heading north from Santa Cruz. On Swanton Road (near the fantastic Swanton Strawberry Farm), this lovely juvenile redtail was checking out the fields.
Something in the field below caught its eye - a little movement rustling in the grass, no doubt. A quick launch....
...and a return with a handful of grass surrounding the meal.
There is a mousie in all of this, right?
Apparently mousie escaped my grasp.
Well... shit.
Back to work... there's bound to be another mousie soon.
Tooling a little further up Swanton Road, there's another familiar shape on a power pole. Another redtail, this time a gorgeous adult. Wow, what a beauty - look at those deep dark eyes.
Oh, and look at that - it's got a meal, too.
Not a mousie, though - a real meal, more than just a snack. But it hears a car approaching and decides....
... to have this meal to go.
