Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic brings to our attention Israel's recent defense of Russian dictator Vladmir Putin:
How low can Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman go?
Low:
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman met with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday, and said that he believes the recent elections in Russia were fair and democratic, the Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported.
According to the report, Lieberman said that he shares the view of the Israeli observers who oversaw the election in Russia, who said they were fair and democratic.
The elections, which were recently described by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as neither free nor fair, resulted with Putin's United Russia party winning less than 50 percent of Sunday's vote - a steep fall from its earlier two-thirds majority.
For those of you not familiar with Lieberman's previous work he was once a member of the Jewish terrorist group Kach.
On the heels of this rather extreme comment by Israel's Foreign Minister, the Russian people have taken to the streets to demand their freedom from this oppressive regime.
Tens of thousands of Muscovites thronged to a square across the river from the Kremlin on Saturday to protest alleged electoral fraud and urge an end to Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's rule, demands repeated at other rallies across this vast country in the largest public show of discontent in post-Soviet Russia.
The demonstrations come three months before Putin, who was president in 2000-2008 and effectively remained the country's leader while prime minister, is to seek a third presidential term. The massive outpouring of public anger challenges his image, supported by state-controlled TV channels, as a man backed by the majority of Russians.
Over the past 20 years or so Israel has become incredibly selfish to a point of being self-destructive. Their one and only concern is furthering their interests in the region. If that means supporting oppressive and bloody regimes then so be it.
I think now whenever Bibi or whoever calls Israel a beacon of democracy in the region we all can laugh in their face.
