I been following the news and getting more disheartened every day as I watch what is happening. Today I wrote another letter to the president attempting to express my frustration. Being of a sarcastic personality it's a bit snarky. The full letter is below the squiggley thing if you like to take a peek.
Scanning the headlines today I read that the Democrats are surrendering on a surtax for the wealthy, SOPA is near passing, damaging the freedoms of the internet, the NDAA is moving through Congress and the president has backed off his veto threat if the bill contains provisions that allows the military to detain American citizens on US soil. Can you see the enthusiasm gap yet?
Let's see,
- Surrender on income justice and equality. Check!
- Cave to corporate interests compromising free speech online. Check!
- Setup potential abuse by allowing any American to be declared a terrorist and detained with out due process. Check!
When will you stand for principles. These are pretty core issues, not only to Democrats but all Americans. Yet you won't stand up and articulate why you will not allow these things to become law.
I know the opposition is awful and we would be worse if they were in control now or gain control in 2013 but "Sucks Less" is not a good campaign slogan. Maybe you could spoof the old Miller Lite commercials, one fan saying "He's Great!" referring to the president, while another answers, "Sucks Less". I'll volunteer for the "Sucks Less" role.
Sincerely,
gaardvark
