Disclaimer: I am not advocating violence of any kind, I am simply stating concerns I have and that I fear may happen. This is also my first diary, so I'm sorry if its not that long.
I believe that this country used to be good. Not great, but good. Now, it's swirling down the tubes due to corporate greed and legislators writing laws that help themselves and the rich instead of every citizen. I believe we must put an end to this, and I believe that the Occupy Movement is a great start to that.
That is where my optimism ends.
From what has been going on recently in Congress, and from the police crackdown on the protests, I believe that Occupy is a temporary fix at best. We need to keep this revolution going, on every front we can, by any peaceful means we have at our disposal. I also fear that it will not be enough. I am scared that any change that occurs will be legislated away within a few years.
Now you may call me a pessimist.
I am terrified that we may have another Reveolutionary War/Civil War on our hands. As we are shown again and again how much we have turned into a police state, I fear that many will get fed up and resort to violence. The part that terrifies me more is that violence may be the only way to stop the rampant corruption evident in our economy and government. I sincerely hope this is not the case and that we can achieve what we need the protests and peacable assembly.
I am sorry if I have come across as paranoid. I'm just having a hard time believing that anything will change.
Injustice has become law, and therefore rebellion becomes our duty. I just pray that a peaceful revolution is all that is needed.
