The ABC/Washington Post poll from a few weeks back with Obama at 49 percent approval was good news, but it was worrisome in that it stood out by itself. Sure it's easy to mock the Rassmussen Republican oversampling but Obama's results have looked bleak in Gallup for months.
Today though has a crucial turn. Yes, you don't want to oversell one day in a tracking poll, but Obama is at 47/45 approve disapproval today. It marks three things - the first time he's been above 44, the first time disapproval has been below 48, and - most importantly - the first time he's run a positive score since early July. Could it be a blip? Sure. Still though, it's a sign that the doldrums of last summer are over and Obama has a chance to make a new impression on the electorate leading into 2012. Keep fighting Barack! It seems to be working!
The best thing about this is that Republicans always live in their bubble universe where they only follow the news that agrees with them. Just today I heard Rush (yeah I know, bad habit) talking about how Obama is completely doomed in 2012. When you only listen to people you agree with, changes can sneak up on you. If the Republicans go into 2012 already assuming that Obama will be an easy target, they might not know what hit them.
