When we
last checked in a week ago Monday, we were at just over 1,300
subscriptions. But even more exciting than that was the culture of giving — 328 gift subscriptions and significantly increased participation.
A week later and the numbers have continued to climb. We are now at 1,733 new subscriptions, about 450 of them gifts (I'd get an exact count, but the people who could dig up that info are on vacation). Needless to say, these numbers are beyond amazing!
This is the last week to get a lifetime subscription. If you want one, for you or your favorite diarist, this is it.
Now, as a final sweetener, we're adding our third eBook to the subscribers download page (the link only works for active subscribers).
It's our very own Mark Sumner's Evolution of Everything. I consider Mark to be the best pure writer of the Daily Kos editor corps (and I doubt any of the other editors would disagree), and this book doesn't disappoint.
Over a century ago, the Social Darwinists appropriated Darwin's name but left most of his theory behind. The Evolution of Everything describes the struggles behind Darwin's theory of evolution and the schemes of those who misapplied it. It also shows why a more nuanced reading of that work—especially the concept of selective pressures—helps us understand many natural, social, and economic processes.
The Theory of Evolution joins my own American Taliban and our compilation Hunter on the Holidays in the subscribers download section.
Thanks to everyone who has lent a hand with this drive. The money earned will allow us to start 2012 much more aggressively than we would've been able to do otherwise. And we need to be as aggressive as possible, because 2012 will begin with a bang in Iowa and won't let up until November.
