No, not me. That would actually be awesome. The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a right wing group that literally writes state level legislation. Legislators then act as couriers to take the bills back to their states and pass them for their corporate handlers.
The Gates Foundation has just bestowed a $376,635 grant upon ALEC. Last year Gates bankrolled the National Council on Teacher Quality. The states that they determined had the best teacher policies? Well, those states have few to no teacher rights. Very, very low teacher compensation. No teacher input into educational decisions. The states they though were best, are also bottom of the barrel on educational outcomes.
The NCTQ makes it pretty clear that their metric for good teacher policies is based more in the human resources office, rather than the classroom. Now Gates removes all doubt by funding ALEC. Below I show a graphic depicting the states that Gates and ALEC want to emulate. These are the states that have their highest rating. Below that are, as an example, their 8th grade math results on the NAEP.
I will leave you with one last thought:
Any idea, masquerading as reform, that continues to focus on the isolated classroom teacher, operating as some sort of independent contractor in their own classroom kingdom, is an idea based on a two centuries old paradigm that just doesn't work.
