I live in Boulder, Colorado -- where two times per year, the local artists in our community open their doors for the Open Studios Tour. This is a great way to see what local artists are working on, and learn from the artists themselves about new techniques they are exploring. This year, I happened upon one artist whose mixed media creations "plugged in" -- and once they warmed up, hidden images appeared. So cool.
The big find for me at Open Studios this fall was Boulder artist Kristin Fitzerall. I bought a large round piece made from reclaimed wood, paper cut-outs of Hawaiian flowers, some small bits of metal and fragments of what look to be charts related to chemical engineering. My feeble description doesn't do it justice -- this piece is just really energetic and cheerful and I'm so happy to look at it every day. You can get a better sense of Kristin's work here: www.studio22art.com.
I purchased an extra small piece from Kristin specifically for donation to the NN Holiday Bazaar. It's under "Home" -- maybe to help it stand out from the other donations of art, and maybe because it looks like a house. It's an assemblage of reclaimed wood, evocative of a modern style beach house. I invite you to take a look: https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/item/Item.action?id=146728659 It's really a wonderful piece -- and perfect size for a small bit of wall that's looking for a little something.
