A new drilling technique is opening up vast fields of previously out-of-reach oil in the western United States, helping reverse a two-decade decline in domestic production of crude.
Move towards energy independence could help our national security and unemployment problem with real jobs for blue collar as well as white collar workers as well as keeping natural gas prices low for decades to come...
...By 2015, oil executives and analysts say, the new fields could yield as much as 2 million barrels of oil a day -- more than the entire Gulf of Mexico produces now.
Imagine that...the USA once again becomming an Oil producing giant and this technique is just scratching the surface in terms of where this could yeild substantial oil deposits...this could turn into another "black gold" rush...
Some estimates is that this could help reduce our oil imports by 50% which will keep more jobs in the US and reduce our trade imbalance too...
Imagine unemployment at 3.8%...that is what it is in North Dakota with the mini Oil Boom...
By 2020, oil imports could be slashed by as much as 60 percent, according to Credit Suisse's Morse, who is counting on Gulf oil production to rise and on U.S. gasoline demand to fall.
Imagine that...keeping all of these jobs in the US and money in the US...isn't that great!!!
At today's oil prices of roughly $90 per barrel, slashing imports that much would save the U.S. $175 billion a year. Last year, when oil averaged $78 per barrel, the U.S. sent $260 billion overseas for crude, accounting for nearly half the country's $500 billion trade deficit.
And cutting our trade deficit in half will benefit many Americans as well...
In the end, while I support the overall goal of renewables, I believe it is unlikely that the US will transform anytime soon so we might as well benefit from good jobs in the US and lower trade deficits to fuel our economy and energy national security...
