Welcome one and all to Shakedown Street!
We are a new Daily Kos group for all things related to the Grateful Dead and their progeny. In the short term, we hope to become a gathering place for like minded Kossaks to talk tour. A more ambitious goal for the long term would be to become Daily Kos' one stop shop for news, tour info, story swapping, meet-ups, and other Dead-themed miscellanea, but that depends on YOU!
Maybe you have hot info, or good stories. Maybe you'll be attending one or more of the upcoming Furthur shows and are inclined to blog your experience. Maybe you have room in your ride to the next show, or a miracle to bestow upon a lucky kossack! If you want to write diaries or contribute to the group in any other way, let us know in the comments, or PM myself or dKos user Direwolf, and you're in! Simple as that.
Below the fold we have some preliminary info on the current state of affairs in the Dead world, links to off-site resources, and of course our theme song! While you're here, feel free to discuss anything and everything even tangentially related to the Grateful Dead or the Jam scene in general.

Editorial
I myself was too busy being a pre-teen twerp to have caught the original incarnation of The Grateful Dead. My first show was Dylan and "The Dead" Tuesday, August 5, 2003 at Deer Creek in Noblesville Indiana. Bob Dylan opened up the show, a bit raspy (even more than usual) but surprisingly spry! He had a keyboard on a strap and was bouncing all over the stage. I think the raspiness may have been due to a cold, as he didn't join The Dead for the encore as was generally expected.
The highlights of the show were the fine work of Charlie Hunter doing vocals on Candyman and New Speedway Boogie, and a killer Terrapin --> Mountain Dew as sung by Joan --> End of Terrapin. A laid back encore of Attic of My Life wrapped up the show, and then back to the campground for a relaxing evening. All and all the experience was very pleasant, much more relaxed than the Phish festival I had attended at the same venue a few weeks before. After that, I was hooked, and went on to catch a few more performances of "The Dead", and a lot more Phil and Friends shows.
Have any stories of your own? Share them in the comments, or better yet, join our group and blog them!
Before signing off, I will once more implore the reader for their assistance with this group! I am a sub-optimal resource for this sort of thing, I'm not as plugged into the scene as I once was, and I can't keep this up forever. I will however be happy to help with the technical side of things for the foreseeable future. I know there are a quite a few Deadheads who frequent this corner of the intertubes, so if you have the inclination, step up, help out, and let's build a great community!
Well, that's all for now, I'll leave you with another fine tune. Adieu!
