House Appropriations Chair Hal Rogers (R-KY) proposes to eliminate the Corporation for National and Community Service including ALL Senior Corps programs.
This means the end of the AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps VISTA, AmeriCorps NCCC, Foster Grandparent Program, RSVP, and the Senior Companion Program.
In addition to the elimination of these critical programs, this cut will drastically reduce funding for programs such as HeadStart, WIC, FEMA, the Center for Disease Control, and Social Security.

Talking points to communicate to your Congressman
Contact your elected officials and urge them to vote "NO" on any proposal that would eliminate programs vital to our communities. The proposed Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1) will destroy services in our communities at a time when millions of Americans are in dire need of food, shelter, healthcare, job training and educational assistance.
The country is desperately trying to recover from a recession and the need for services has never been greater. And yet, state and local funding has already been cut repeatedly. Volunteerism and community service is an unparalleled and cost-effective solution to meeting community needs.
What will happen if we don't act on Continuing Resolution (H.R. 1) now?
Increased Unemployment Rates
Increased Dependency on Medicare and Medicaid
Increased Demand for Government Assistance
The federal investment made in faith based and community organizations through the Corporation for National and Community Service leverages $799 million in matching funds from companies, foundations and other sources.
The elimination of these programs will force numerous non-profit and non-governmental organizations to close their doors. Statistics have shown that 40% of organizations will not reopen following a similar crisis.
We urge you to tell your Congressman to vote "NO" on H.R. 1
