So I'm on Facebook, when one of my friends puts up a link to the salaries of WI teachers and administrators. Since I don't know any one who is a teacher in WI, I did a generic "show all" search. Five hundred (500) results came back (I am guessing this was the max limit of the search).
Anyhoo...
I pointed out to her that 499 out of 500 were administrative and/or management positions. This triggered a response from one of her (more) conservative friends.
I have been in debate with him ever since, and now I have a headache in my eye.
So, my question to the DailyKos community: is it worth continuing the debate?
I am under no illusion that I will convert this man to my progressive way of thinking. However, I think it important that bogus arguments and unreasonable attacks do not go unanswered.
For example:
He is saying that the WI public sector employees need to make concessions because of the tough economic times, yet fails to acknowledge that part of the budgetary "crisis" is a result of Walker having given major tax breaks to businesses, thus reducing revenue.
As I said, I know I have a snowball's chance in hell to convert this guy, but, for others reading the thread, should I continue with the debate?
My husband thinks I am spitting in the wind. But should one remain silent in the face of such ignorance and ideology?
The floor is open for your comments, critiques and suggestions.
Peace.
