I spent the Presidents' Day weekend in Madison. Here is a short visual report on that time. For more photos, please click through to my Flickr stream from any photo.
The weekend started with counter-protests by the Teabaggers. As this picture shows, they were kind of surrounded by our side. However, there wasn't much tension. The Baggers were too pathetic to waste any hatred on.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Capital, a solidly Pro-Labor crowed gathered.
The signs inside the capital are quite the spectacle.
Many people complain about accusations of Fascism, but speaking as a political scientist, the total elimination of Collective Bargaining is an intrinsically Fascist position.
Those who spent the night in the Capital got to attend an early morning organization meeting. This guy made me think of Megaphone Mike from the early Doonesbury strips.
Some people used conceptual art to make a statement
Others used internet culture
John Oliver was there taping on Monday. Apperently there was supposed to be a bit with a camel, but it was sad about the cold and kept slipping on the ice, so the Daily Show staff took it away, hopefully to some place warm.
This women is a Wisconsin Corrections Officer. Her sign asks a very interesting question and one I suggest you all try asking your right-wing friends next time they start whining about supposedly over-inflated government worker pay.
The Teabaggers didn't have a monopoly on flags. Many Pro-Labor Demonstrators carried Old Glory.
The arrival of the Fire Fighters is always a big deal.
I couldn't agree more
