I readily admit that after year 1, I gave up on any hope that Obama would fulfil any of his campaign promises. But recent moves by his administration point to the use of torture on Wikileaks contributor, and I'm not ok with that.
So if Obama is going back on all his campaign promises, how do we have any hope that he'll listen to the left? Torture is and always will be wrong, and firing officials who side against torture goes beyond a passive admission of guilt, and instead points to active attempts to cover up the wrongdoings by US officials and government employees. This is a human rights issue, a moral issue, and should be front page news. Even in intelligent conservatives must acknowledge that torturing our own citizens means we have no moral high ground to preach from, towards oppressive regimes elsewhere. How different are we from egypt or libya if we hide away our political prisoners and torture them, even when there's zero proof they caused any actual damge or posed real danger to the US?
