I've been taking pictures for over 34 years. While in college at Humboldt State University I developed a love for taking Landscape images. Shooting weddings just wasn't for me, trees don't talk back.
Some of the images I'm posting today I have included in other diaries or threads so you may have seen them before. The first section will be images I took back in my film/slide days. they were taken with a Nikon F4 and various lenses, usually wide angle with a small f/stop to maximize depth of field. I always used a tripod and a cable shutter release to minimize movement since I was usually shooting at a pretty low shutter speed.
The next group are all digital, most taken with a Nikon D70 although a few are taken with a Nikon Coolpix S50c (because that was the camera I happen to have with me when the light was perfect). Again, with the D70 I've used a tripod and the camera's timer to reduce movement. The Coolpix pictures are all just point and shoot.
I also shoot with my iPhone, I've already diaried some of those images here.

Descriptions, from the top:
Film/Slide
1 - El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. I shot that from the valley floor looking west.
2 - Purple Flower on Redwood Burl. Prairie Creek State Park, CA. I commented on taking this image here.
3 - Agate Beach, Patricks Point State Park, CA. Shot at sun rise.
4 - Trinidad State Beach, Trinidad CA. The Segull and I are in the water. I chased him around trying to get him to take flight, hopefully towards the sunset, but finally gave up and took the picture. He won.
5 - Egret, Gold Bluff's Beach, Prairie Creek State Park, CA
6 - El Capitan and the Merced River, Yosemite National Park, CA. I was shooting to the east in this picture.
7 - Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Redwood National Park, CA.
8 - Self Portrait, Gold Bluff's Beach, Prairie Creek State Park, CA
Digital D70
9 through 13 - Not a lot to say about these images, they were all shot in my yard when I lived in Carlsbad, CA. I've never been good at naming my photos, specially ones of flowers since I really don't know the names of most of them.
Coolpix
14 through 16 - These were shot in my parents backyard. I do know the first two are Fort Night Lilies, the last one is some kind of succulent.
Landscape photography is what I enjoy the most but I also like taking candid photos of people being people. I use a bigger lens, 200 to 300 mm so that the subjects aren't distracted by my taking their picture. Of course I have thousands of pictures of my kids as well. At some point I will probably diary about some of my other work, we'll see.
Update:
Some people who are using IE as their browser are having problems viewing this diary. This is probably because of the table I used for the black background. If you can't switch to another browser you have two choices: 1) you can view this
screencast I made of this diary, or 2) you can view the images on my website at
