So do you need a little break from all the trouble, heartache, grief, anger and general unpleasantness of things here in the US and around the rest of the world? Here's something you can check over the next 24 hours or so get away from it for a bit.
Over in the UK right now there is a radio team broadcasting on BBC Radio 1 that is going for a record for charity. Chris Moyles and his sidekick Dave Vitty normally do the morning show on Radio 1. They've been on the air since 6:30 AM yesterday (GMT). So they're currently at 18 hours of continuous broadcasting. You can view them doing the show on webcam live.
Although Radio 1 is a music station (generally British top 40), Chris's show is, for the most part, a talk show with a few songs thrown in here and there. No politics at all although they do 5 minutes newscasts at the top and bottom of the hour. I usually describe the show as "a silly show about nothing in particular".
The charity involved is Comic Relief which some here may have heard of before. This is kind of a big deal over there. They've actually got a dedicated TV channel broadcasting the entire marathon event.
So if you need a break for all the crap going on around the world you may want to check this out now and then over the next day or two. They would like to go 50 hours to break the record for a radio team record, but if they make it past 37 hours they will have at least broken the Radio 1 record set back in the late 90's (which was also set as part of a Comic Relief charity event). They've already raised nearly 300,000 pounds. If you feel any need to donate (if benefits primarily fighting blindness and other eye diseases in Africa) you will have to donate at the Comic Relief official website.
