People apologize for
the strangest things.
In this edition, we send a big change to the Publication Manager that should make the usage more smooth and intuitive, and less likely to send you down any dark and dangerous paths.
Publishing Changes
- "Preview" has been changed to "Save & Preview", to more accurately reflect what's happening when you click it.
- In the "Publication Manager" popup, unselected sections are grayed out, to provide a better visual cue as to what's selected.
- In the "Publication Manager", you will not see options to "Publish Now" or "Publish Later" in the "Publication Manager" box if you are not the author of the story (i.e. if you're merely a group member/editor): you can only send it to the group queue. From the queue, you can then publish or schedule it normally. This should prevent group blog editors from accidentally publishing a diary to a user's blog when they meant only to (re)queue it to the group blog.
- The "Diary queued to (author's own name)" message should no longer appear.
- The "Publication Manager" will now more usefully redirect you after publishing a story. "Publish Now" will take you to your own blog page; "Publish Later" will take you to your drafts folder; "Queue to a group blog" will take you to the queue for that group blog.
- On your personal drafts page, you may now unschedule a previously scheduled diary by clicking on the scheduled time. This corrects an oversight in which it was impossible to unschedule something to your own blog; before, you could only change the scheduled time rather than remove it.
- Attempted fixes for an error that could sometimes occur when trying to edit an already-published story
- Minor other fixes to user's drafts page and the group queue page.
We are hoping that these changes reduce (after a short surprised expletive) user confusion and make publishing smoother.
Some Other Stuff
- Larger font size on the diary queue pages.
- Larger font size on popups in general.
- My embarrassing bug where I used the same comment count for both "see more" and "welcome back" sidebars is fixed.
- Comment searches that spanned dates in February 2011 now return results, if there are any.
- Some minor feature box controls that will make the DK Editors glad and will make their way (almost said "trickle down" and stopped myself) to the Rescue Rangers when they've shaken it out in practice.
