I'd like to point to the excellent work done by Perrspectives and Donny Shaw over at Open Congress that identifies past Republican hypocrisy over Government Shutdowns.
I know that this is in relation to the Debt Ceiling but it strikes at the common thread of Government Shutdowns.
Simply by informing people non-stop that it was in fact Republicans who averted a National crisis by increasing the debt limit so they could add $4.1 trillion of debt to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Now that the proverbial chickens have come home to roost they are asking the working class to fit the bill for this mismanagement.
Dick Cheney famously said in 2002, "deficits don't matter." Not, that is, when a Republican is sitting in the White House.

Remember this has NEVER been a question of austerity but one of revenue. The deeper we dig into corporate tax avoidance, as we have in recent days with the light shining bright upon General Electric, the more true that statement becomes.
How can our country or any country for that matter continue to operate in an era where corporate profits are at historic highs and yet tax revenue from them is at historic lows?
That is the real question we must all put to our corporately sponsored legislatures and I fear they have already responded to a larger chunk of us by saying "Let them eat cake!"
I'm sorry to say but we have found ourselves at the same laissez-faire mentality that brought about the French Revolution. The anger on the street is rising and only continues to grow with every passing day and yet another Congress member is demanding more sacrifice from those who have nothing left to sacrifice.
I'm a firm believer in non-violent protest and believe that if We the People don't rise up united as one voice and demand meaningful Congressional reform and campaign finance reform we will yet find ourselves in another bloody civil war. Thanks in part to the misinformation and lies spread by the likes of FOX PAC and the Tea Party Astrturfing Koch brothers. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
