“Their agenda has included, among other things, a failed, debt-financed economic “stimulus”; an attempt to control the Nation’s energy sector; increasing domination of housing and financial markets; the use of taxpayer dollars to seize part ownership of two nearly bankrupt auto makers; and, of course, the planned takeover of Americans’ health care, already heavily burdened, manipulated, and distorted by government spending and regulation. This domineering government brings taxes, rules, and mandates; generates excessive levels of spending, deficits, and debt; leads to economic stagnation and declining standards of living; and fosters a culture in which self-reliance is a vice and dependency a virtue – and as a result, the entire country weakens from within.” (http://www.roadmap.republicans.budget.house.gov/Plan/#Intro)>
This is not in the actual document that Republicans voted for, it is from Congressman Paul Ryan’s Roadmap on-line. It is an amazing characterization of the Democratic agenda. These people really have no shame. They seem to believe the best way to debate an opponent’s position is to completely mischaracterize it, the more the better. The only standard for this kind of debate tactic is to make sure it cannot “technically” be called a lie.
Consider “an attempt to control the Nation’s energy sector” which I can only surmise is either Obama’s moratorium on Gulf drilling just after the BP disaster or his policy to promote green energy neither of which even comes close to being an attempt to control the Nation’s energy sector. What exactly are the Democrats trying to control?
Or this gem “the use of taxpayer dollars to seize part ownership of two nearly bankrupt auto makers”. Seize? If you throw a drowning man a rope are you seizing him?
But the crown jewel is his claim that the agenda “fosters a culture in which self-reliance is a vice and dependency a virtue – and as a result, the entire country weakens from within”. You can just picture the welfare moms driving in limos to pick up their checks.
There are honest conservatives out there who make true conservative arguments against the Progressive agenda but Ryan is not one of them. I believe he knows how dishonest he is; he just believes the ends justify the means which is both immoral and cowardly.
