This & that.
I got some cucumber seed planted in today under the mimosas, and then I went and worked out the compost in the potato buckets, which didn't work.
Some people seem to be able to grow potatoes from store potatoes, but my little ones were, I suspect, overly fumigated with growth retardant.
Oh well.
So I pulled out everything that wasn't compost and put that in different buckets (sticks, grass) and then sifted the rest through my compost screen that is made from stucco wire on a frame, set on bricks, and that onto tarp, and sifted out all of the compost and the isopods and the ants, and went away until tomorrow, when hopefully these people will have gotten themselves into other circumstances.
But there is a good pile of compost, though.
I planted the cucumber seed where there were volunteer acorn squash a few years back, that did well. Cukes can be happy with some shade, if they get water and good soil, so I thought it was worth a try. They got some vermiculite and finished compost from the last batch.
I also started soaking some Mina lobata seeds, to plant around the almost entirely dead pomegranate. I figure they can climb up it.
Mina lobata, here, two years ago:
Almost Dead pomegranate:
This is one of those kind of lemons/lemonade deals, I figure.
I think I might plant some lupines, and maybe some rock roses (portulaca) in a pot, and then I'm done. Not sure what I'm going to do after this; gardens do tie one down. But I wanted to have at least one good one, for now. It's kind of like sex, for me. It calms me down. It makes me happy. It's sustaining. It makes for really great memories.
