BREAKING (5 hours ago as of 7pm EST today, Saturday): Tax problems. Lots of tax problems. According the Associated Press:
Records reviewed by The Associated Press show the tax liens ranged from a $195 property tax bill in the Atlanta suburbs to $1,969 in unpaid Missouri taxes.
What does the Gingrich campaign say about the same type of behavior which led to a censure of Charlie Rangel in the House last year?
Gingrich spokesman Rick Tyler said Gingrich and his firms were unaware of the liens until recently. He said the companies have either paid the bills or filed documents necessary to resolve the underlying problems.
Really, Newt? You must think people don't know how long it takes for the IRS to go from notification of deficient tax payments to filing a lien. For individuals, the process takes years. For corporations, they're even more forgiving.
Dozens of mail notices had to have been sent - possibly even hundreds. Yet Gingrich was "unaware".
And one of the liens had only been paid last week.
One exception [where outstanding liens were left unpaid] was in Pennsylvania, where Gingrich Holdings Inc. last week paid off a $1,599 lien for unpaid corporate income taxes just days before Gingrich formally announced his presidential run.
We've got a President who is quite "aware", Newt. Very much "aware". You'll need to compete.
And who here is surprised to find that Newt's perennial and serial problems with common ethics keep rolling right along?
