This is a phrase I like to say when it seems that all common sense has left the vicinity. Usually, I will refer to work, and it is my way of being exasperated, but not yell.
I take the line from the Movie "Zoolander" and when Mugato (played by Will Ferrell) finally cracks at the absurdity of the Fashion world, he jumps up and screams this line.
As I am reading Dkos and other "News" outlets, I feel like I am taking Crazy Pills.
First, I get to work, and open up Yahoo 7. See, here in Australia, Yahoo is owned by a news organization, and therefore can be just as bias as any of our networks.
The number one story is Joplin. Being a Midwestern Boy, and no stranger to the dangers of Tornadoes, I have been heartbroken by the events.
I read "1500 Missing" and my heart stops. 1,500 people? I hope that number lowers to 0, but it is just heartbreaking. I quickly think of Katrina, and how 1300 people died, and that was a hurricane. This tornado lasted 10 minutes. What is happening? Why can't people see that Climate Change predicted this. Stronger, more erratic storms, more sever weather for everyone...etc. etc.
I think go to Fark.com. I like Fark because it brings a lot of stories from various outlets together, and the daily "war" on the politics tab can be interesting to watch.
I see an article from the Washington Post. I used to work a couple of buildings down from the Post, and always thought that was neat. Anyhow, I read a story from Think Progress about Eric Cantor refusing money to help those in Joplin unless the Democrats make some spending cuts.
Oh that is great, 1500 people are missing, a Hospital is destroyed and an entire town mauled by mother nature, and YOU want to play political games? ESPECIALLY given that:
Meanwhile, as Climate Progress reports, the government’s tornado forecasting service faces cuts in the GOP Congress, including cuts to NOAA weather satellite that “could halve the accuracy of precipitation forecasts.” Accurate and early forecasting is tremendously important, as “tornado deaths in the United States have gone from 8 per 1 million people in 1925 to 0.11 per 1 million people today — a trend largely attributed to early-warning systems fed by advanced meteorology and the introduction of Doppler radar.”
This goes on top of the political games about helping Japan out, or Bobby Jindal scoffing at Volcano monitoring funding. It is like they don't care about Life.
THEN. I go to good ol Daily Kos. I enjoy Kos, even though I don't agree with everything. I like the community overall and I get a good Diary here and there. I go to the front page and I see the Cantor article again... but then I see... Douche GOP telling Old People to find their own Insurance
AM I TAKING CRAZY PILLS???
Let's first discuss Employer Health Care... Sure, it is great in theory, but absolutely no Employer is going to give you Insurance after you retire. If I recall, GM and Ford did that once, and they had to cut those people off because the cost were prohibitive. Now this Douche of a Congressman wants old people to work until they DIE just so they can get insurance?
Next... does anyone recall the time before Medicare? Poor Homes for the elderly because they can't afford anything. With Medical prices now, trying to keep Grandma alive may bankrupt generations of family members.
The only thing I can think of is that the GOP wants Americans to be their own Death Panels.
This is why... this is why we fight, and we push. I was never a strong proponent of Single Payer... but I get it now. I live in Australia, and I will start getting Medicare in a few months. I also can get Private, Supplemental Insurance... combined it is less than a 1/3 of what I paid for in the US... and I have no fear of Bankruptcy.
I don't get it. Why is it that the elected GOP want people to suffer and die? Do they want to line their pockets with Money? Do they get a perverse thrill of denying Americans basic support? I just don't get it.
I know many Republicans in my life... but I just don't understand why good people can be hoodwinked into going against their basic interests?
Am I taking Crazy Pills? Seriously?
