Welcome to the bar that has a million choices of beer. Beers from other countries, microbrews, big company beers, flavored beers, dark beer, light beer, lager, porter, ale, stout, IPA, etc.
I was at such a bar yesterday and had a really hard time deciding. I finally decided on one of my personal favorites: Dogfish Head Ale.
My son had choices to make about a more serious matter.
My son will be entering his Senior year of high school. Yesterday, he found out that Journalism class is going to be held during the same period as Band. He very much wants to be a journalist someday and has already taken Journalism 1. But....he has played drums since 3rd grade. He will be the Senior Section Leader of the Drum Line—a really big deal and honor in this high school’s band. He was angry. He was passionate. He had to decide what to do before today was out!
We—his dad, me, and Son—talked at length last night. He did get the Communications/Rhetoric class, which is a plus. The same teacher teaches that class and Journalism. We wondered if that teacher would support Son with a Senior Project of writing and reporting. Would that teacher allow Son to contribute to the school newspaper and teach him about editing outside of class? We agreed that my son would keep Band and talk to his teacher about the other options. As it has turned out, his teacher couldn’t be more pleased. He, too, was disappointed that my son would not be in the Journalism class. Now, because we thought things through and worked together to find a solution, he will be my son’s advisor for his Senior Project. The Senior Project will be for my son to publish—research, write, edit, and publish—an individual newspaper once every 4-6 weeks throughout the school year. In many ways, this is a better option for my son to get him ready for what he hopes to continue to learn when he moves on to college.
What choices do we have to make in our lives? What choices have we made that have changed the course of our lives? Are there times when one person (or a group of people) has made a difference in the choices you’ve made? What do you think are choices we make as a group of Progressives that hurt or help our cause?
This is an open thread. Feel free to share about your day. Any news? Welcome!
