Hyperbole? You decide.
My hours were reduced and I lost my insurance benefits 2 years ago. Since then I have been working 2 jobs to make ends meet. Because I am less than 35 hours for both employers, I am ineligible for insurance benefits. Until today.
June 1st marks the day that I am now officially eligible to sign up again for the company insurance plan. Good news right? Yes and no.
Blue Shields’ plan is a PPO with a high deductible. Meaning I pay for everything out of pocket up to a certain dollar amount. After that the BS of CA picks up the tab. Better than nothing I guess, except if you happen to have Asthma, as does my wife.
You see, BS of CA considers Asthma a preexisting condition and can refuse any claims that are Asthma related for 6 months.
Need an Inhaler?
Albuterol?
Can’t breath and need to be rushed to the ER?
Sorry, claim DENIED.
DW suffers from Nasal Polyps as a result of her Asthma and can’t breath through her nose. She isn’t getting enough oxygen.
Plug your nose and try to drink a glass of water. Or eat. Or sleep, only able to breath through your mouth.
She needs surgery to have the Polyps removed. We were hoping that today we would be closer to being able to schedule her surgery before her allergies and asthma cause respiratory arrest, and we have to rush her to the emergency room to save her life.
Good thing we have insurance now.
Oh wait, nevermind.
