The WeeklyBUG is a report on the Bad, Ugly and Good the previous week. Unfortunately, this blogger has been severely ill and had major problems (like room rent - can't make money in bed). Thus, the report has been off the grid for a few weeks. This week we take a look at some neat stuff. Bad Republicans may be winning their fight to stymie Elizabeth Warren's chance to be head of CFPB, the Weiner mess is real Ugly and thank goodness Texas legislators said no to forensic czar.
THE BAD;
Now there are press reports that President Obama may select someone else to be head of the Consumer Fraud Protection Bureau (CFPB), which is created by the Dodd Frank Act.
Thus it seems that the Republicans are winning in their quest to stymie efforts to reign in all the white collar abuse of middle class America. This, despite the fact that the petition (pic above left) has more than 300,000 signatures. Minn Senator Al Franken has joined the campaign. (Please add your's by signing the Petition (here)).
So, President Obama has nominated Raj Date - as an alternative to Elizabeth Warren (whom some are now speculating, will seek the Senator's seat in Mass.). As denoted by Daily Kos venerated Joan Carter, with her pic (above right) of Mitch Connell from Reuters', the Republicans' are throwing a temper tantrum. (See Joan Carter's Repub Temper Tantrum Diary (here)). Joan Carter points out the real reason for the hatred of Elizabeth Warren is not just their sexist persona, but the fact that they are betraying their loyalty for the sake of big biz. As Joan Carter wrote;
That's just part of the fight, though. The other part is that the opponents to the CFPB and Warren owe the allegiance not to the constituents who voted them into office, but the big-monied financial interests that keep them there, lining their campaign coffers. An informed and educated public is a dangerous thing to Republicans, and to the industry that finances them. So the hell with us. It's our place to be screwed by Wall Street.
The BAD (cont.)
Anyone can see (in our Diary on the NY US Attorney Preet Bharara stating that "Goldman Sachs ain't too big to prosecute") -that we have clear and convincing evidence the system is broke and white collar crime equal to and bigger than Madoff is still transpiring unhindered. (See Diary "Goldman Sachs and Willfully Blind DOJ (here)).
We have our own little Petition for Elizabeth Warren (here). Due to my lack of Social Networking prowess, it only has 182 signatures. However, one comment thereon pointed out a NY Times article - sweet - on why Elizabeth Warren is the only one for the job. NY Times columnist Joe Nocera agrees that though Raj Date was a great no. 2 hire by Elizabeth Warren, it would be wrong for the Administration to cave.
As stated in the NY Times Columnist [opinion] Page (here) - Republicans shamefully mistreated Elizabeth Warren and President Obama should stick to his guns on hire appointment;
In politics, there are certainly times when compromise is the right approach. But this is not one of those times. The agency needs to begin its life unafraid to do its job, which won’t happen if the White House backs down now. By contrast, nominating Elizabeth Warren, who is nothing if not unafraid, would send exactly the right signal.
Personally, I think it is a huge mistake to cave on Elizabeth Warren
and I'm greatly disappointed at the weakness here :o(.
The UGLY
What can we say about Congressman Weiner? He is a travesty. Newly married, to a beautiful gal, who is also a key Democrat. His actions are both inexplicable and intolerable. He must and will resign - or be removed. Nancy does not say much publicly, but when she does, she usually digs in deep to make it so.
As stated on Wikipedia (here);
On May 27, 2011, Weiner sent a link via Twitter to a photograph on yfrog showing his erect penis concealed by briefs to a 21-year-old woman in Bellingham, Washington, who was "following" him on the social media website.
He initially said [LIED greatly] he had not posted the image, and that his account had been "hacked."
What happens when you allow sexual promiscuous persons to continue unhindered? You get situations like the cheerleader who is being fined $35,000 for refusing to cheer for the person who raped her (See Petition on the issue (here)).
Let's face it Congressman Weiner, in your efforts to go where lips blow - you blew it
All!
THE GOOD
We have 2 noteworthy mentions this week. Those of you that have followed our eToys saga, we received a break (so to speak). Playing puppet master, sending out the voluminous facts of crimes and cover ups. BCC'ing parties that we know would tell other parties they were copied, always leads to the proper panic on who it is that we are sending it to - that they do Not know of.
As a result, the only NY firm in the eToys (ebc1) v Goldman Sachs NY Supreme Court case (601805/2002) - POMERANTZ - did a press release as a CYA (here). Stating publicly, that Goldman Sachs breached their fiduciary duty to their client (eToys) - intentionally benefiting themselves. In what we understand, as the NY United States Attorney (Preet Bharara) covering his own arse (here) - he said "Goldman Sachs' ain't to big to prosecute" (See our aforementioned Diary/blog (here)).
We have "extensive" public docket record proof of betrayals of public oaths and organized crime protection by Dept of Justice personnel. You can check on my page for previous diaries on the proofs profuse, irrefutable and overwhelming. That the Dept of Justice has rogue personnel, corrupting our federal system of justice to protect Mitt Romney's Bain entity engaged in organized crimes within our federal courts and how Goldman Sachs attorneys committed federal fraud intentionally to assist their secret clients Bain and Goldman Sachs. Texas Senate says NO to Gov Rick Perry's Forensic Science nominee
We are happy to hear that the Texas Senate stopped a murderer from being rewarded for executing innocent people. Previously we reported on the case of Cameron Todd Willingham, the man who lost his kids due to an electrical fire. Not only did he suffer a loss, that none of us can hardly, possibly fathom. He was arrested, convicted, sentenced to death and EXECUTED - for a crime he did not commit. May his soul be in heaven peacefully - with his young ones!
You can see the Cameron Todd Willingham story at the Innocence Project (here).
NY Reporter Grann details the facts in his story "Trial by Fire".
The entire trial transcript is (here). All of which is found in detail, with other links on the issue in my diary "Political Murder 101 - the Lethal Injection of Innocents". The evidence science was phony and fostered in a method so that one man could get huge fees for giving the prosecutors what they wanted to hear.
Governor Perry and others had evidence that Cameron Todd Willingham was innocent, but chose to ignore the facts and not put any effort into review of the matter. We have started a website (soon to be released) - that details the extensive obtuse acts by various parties involved in the case. Currently, everyone involved is assisting each other in burying the case from investigation.
We give high KUDOs to the bi-partisan support to halt Governor Perry's appointee!
Details of the story can be found on MY Santonio's web page (here) - stating;
There was never any optimism about Bradley's chairmanship of the Forensic Science Commission. Perry sacked the previous chairman and two other members of the commission in 2009, just as they were about to begin hearing expert testimony in a controversial case in which deeply flawed forensic evidence was used to send Cameron Todd Willingham to death row.
Perry denied Willingham's reprieve request. The state of Texas executed him in 2004.
Bradley, the Williamson County district attorney, abruptly canceled the 2009 hearing. Since then, he's employed every conceivable tactic to delay a conclusive finding in the Willingham case, a finding that might be politically damaging to Perry.

Finally
We are all happy that the whistle blower trial of Thomas Drake ended well. Despite millions in work, vast amounts of charges and his facing nearly 35 years (for doing the right thing). Thomas Drake had all the huge allegations by big Gov - dropped. He has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and will get no jail time. (see WaPo story (here)).
