Just sayin' that if this whole E. coli disaster had first appeared in the good ole' US of A a lot more people would probably have already died. Those lucky ducky European "socialists" can just hop off to the hospital whenever they want -- someobody better tell the Aetna CEO that these bastards need more "skin in the game." They're so greedy going to the hospital when they feel like death without price shopping first!
"Oh, I'm vomiting my brains out and coughing up blood, but is this an 'I want to go bankrupt from hospital bills?' case of 'vomiting my brains out and coughing up blood'?"
Let's get serious: it's time for single payer.
Just sayin'...
EDIT: Many are saying this is an unfair argument, but my point is really [insert horrible disease/virus/food poisoning here]. In any society that puts up huge barriers to entering the hospital, it's inevitable that a major medical crisis would be more deadly and awful than in another society where there are no barriers to something as simple as visiting the hospital. (And, yes, I know the ER has to accept anyone, but they can also make someone's life hell with bill collection.)
The bottom line: some variation on single payer is a public health necessity.
