Back from the mountains and for four wonderful nights I got to witness the synchronous fireflies in the Smokies. For about fourteen days in mid June it is an amazing show for all to see. This is the second year my partner and i have camped at Elkmont and walked each evening to view the light show.
Camping at Elkmont is the easiest way to see the beetles and during the day you can hike to the many waterfalls in the area. There are bathrooms and running water at the campsite, but there is no electricity and you can bathe in the creek.
The days were warm, but the nights were cool with a gentle breeze. We had camp fires in the evening and slept under the stars. It was a delightful trip and I hope one day you can make it there to see the bioluminescence display of these amazing bugs.
