LulzSec hit some sort of Arizona law enforcement server yesterday, releasing a 449 meg torrent containing just over 700 files. These are the same guys that knocked down the CIA and the Senate recently. The file attached to the release cites their displeasure with the racist SB1070 law as well as a desire to produce ‘lulz’ –humor at the expense of hapless system administrators who fall into their clutches.
I’ve been looking around the torrent a bit and while it’s nothing like the blast from the HBGary break in there are some interesting tidbits …
First, I’m going to caution you on retrieving this archive. There are some things in here marked in the following fashion:
(U/LES) This is how an (U)nclassified but (L)aw (E)nforcement (S)ensitive document gets tagged. Each paragraph has a classification and if you start seeing things with a (C) or other markings, well … don’t touch, delete, forget you saw it. I haven’t seen anything like that yet, it’s unlikely to turn up in this collection, which appears to be from a cracked highway patrol server, but you never know …
This being said, I was amused to find:
Killer Implants – a World Nut Daily piece on women getting explosive breast implants.
SpectorSoft Chat Lingo Guide – OMG! WTF do they need this for?!?!? SRSLY?
And I know you guys will appreciate this.
If you are going to pull the torrent and you don’t have a strong stomach I’ll suggest skipping the images. There are a couple of very graphic crime scene shots. There are a lot of briefs on right wing extremists – militia, sovereign citizens, Hammerskins, and there were a bunch of things on Mexican drug gangs and American biker gangs.
So this is good clean fun, @LulzSec style – Arizona cops get their pants yanked down around their ankles, the author of this mischief is probably a resident of Europe using a cracked server in Asia and they’ll never find the guy, but the big picture is a little more serious.
Today it’s Arizona Highway Patrol, and the CIA keeps nothing serious on their public facing web site, but I have no doubt that the leapin’ lulzsec lizards do have documents with stuff like this in them:
(TS/CW) Top Secret/Code Word information from LULZSEC, not to be distributed to hapless system administrators
And instead of internal Lulz Security humor it’ll be something from NATO that will trigger, well, let’s not go there.
We do security. Badly. Go read Top Secret America – having a mob of contractors with their noses in the public trough doesn’t make us safer, it just leaves a lot of arrogant, partially trained clowns like @AaronBarr in a position to offer what ought to be government only services to corporations.
We’re going to shrink our military presence in Afghanistan and Iraq, but the threat that the various Anonymous factions, Lulz Security, and other less recognized forces on the internet will remain. We have to protect ourselves wisely this time, instead of giving in to another 9/11 like burst of weapons building and surrender of civil liberties.
And speaking of HBGary, whatever happened to Congressman Hank Johnson's call for an investigation? What was revealed in the released emails ought to be the Watergate of our time, but a complicit Republican dominated House and a Department of Justice that seems more interested in professional sports steroid use leave us all subject to who knows what sort of military style psyops.
