It is a tired and stupid trope, but you will here it repeated AD NAUSUEM by the duped Koch-heads out there and I saw it again on a comment section of a recent news article
"Who hires people? A poor person? Or a rich person?"
The correct answer is NEITHER!!!
Other than a few assistants, housekeepers, drivers, etc., "Rich People" do not hire anyone. In fact, even though they rail against illegal immigrants, the few people that rich people actually 'hire' turn out to illeagals. If rich people hired people, then Bill Gates would employ thousands.
WAIT! Doesn't Bill Gates employ thousands? No MICROSOFT INC. does.
Companies hire people, whether mega-corporations or small businesses.
Rich People have the lowest taxes that they have had in generations. I am finally hearing progressives start saying this out loud. "If cutting taxes on the wealthy created jobs, then we should have PLENTY of jobs already."
But it goes behind that. CORPORATE TAXES are among the lowest they have ever been, and corporate 'welfare' is going strong. Corporate profits are soaring, yet jobs are not being created. Why is this.
Corporations are taxed on their profits. Since taxes are so low, their is no dis-incentive to make record profits. And since personal taxes are so low, there is no dis-incentive for corporate masters to pay themselves and their select buddies as much money as possible.
But that is even second to the MAIN POINT. And though I hear many of us saying this, it still is not getting through the Thick-Skull Crowd. Corporations hire people, and they only hire people when there a REASON TOO, ie, when there is DEMAND for their products or services.
If we balance the budget by cutting MORE JOBS (cutting budgets to community services). If we pay our cops and firefighters and teachers even less. If we make our seniors cut all of there other spending (food, clothes, visits to see grandchildren) just to afford the get their medical treatments (cutting medicare), then our companies will have EVEN LESS reasons to hire.
They can make ALL THE MONEY THE WORLD (and Big Oil is sure trying!), but will NOT spend that money to hire new employees, or buy new equipment, until there are enough customers with enough money to AFFORD the goods and services the companies provide.
And that is a reality that the Thick Head Club will try to deny, but their denial does not change the facts.
