At some point Michele Bachmann is going to have to explain why she keeps on making patently false statements like this
one from her 2012 kickoff event:
The liberals, and to be clear I’m NOT one of them, want you to think the Tea Party is the Right Wing of the Republican Party. But it’s not. It’s made up of disaffected Democrats, independents, people who’ve never been political a day in their life, libertarians, Republicans. We’re people who simply want America back on the right track again.
That's bull. Tea partiers are overwhelmingly conservative. According to Gallup, eight out of ten of them say they are Republicans, and 92% of strong tea party supporters voted Republican in last year's congressional elections.
But hey, at least now we know why Michele Bachmann thinks she can win the presidency: in her eyes, every real American is a tea partier. And given the facts that only real Americans can and that every tea partier loves her, that means she's got this thing locked up. In her mind, at least.
