As many probably know, the Obama Campaign is raffling off a dinner with Joe and Barack for a donation. If you're not like Malia or Sasha who get the things done before the 11th hour, today is the last day to get in on the dinner raffle.
I went back and forth on this. Should I or shouldn't I donate?
When OFA called me recently, I gave the poor volunteer an earful and told them I wasn't donating ... I was still incensed over Sec. Duncan's horrible letter to teachers duing Teacher Appreciation week.
But, then again ... a chance to speak directly to power? A chance to tell our family's story with a husband out of work for almost 2 years (who just recently got a job!) and the heart breaking stories of my students' familes. And boy, I sure would like to give him my 2 cents on NCLB and Arne Duncan!
My husband hasn't started the new job, yet, let alone gotten a paycheck, so even $5 means a lot to us ... but, then again ...
I began to smile and decided to splurge on $5 worth of hope for myself over the next few days -- that I just might have a chance to have that conversation. A chance to have a progressive at the table, literally? Hmmmm.
So, I went for it -- for me, my husband, my students. I donated at:

I'd be curious to hear others' takes on donating.
I admit to still feeling ambiguous about my decision, and I know it was a clever ploy on their part to have the dinner chance thrown in. I don't mind politicians and campaigns being clever.
I was as much motivated by having the opportunity to give him a peice of my mind as I was by the opportunity to shake his hand.
However, I also think Mittens or Bachman as POTUS would be beyond a disaster, so I know that I will be voting for Barack Obama, who I happen to still like personally.
It's a funny place that I never thought I'd be in. But, there it is, and in the 11th hour, I realized I was still in and fired up to hope.
Here's the site for the raffle, again:

And, I'll be curious to hear real views on donating this time around. No, I am NOT scheduling a pie fight. I think it would be just interesting to listen to where others in this community are, at this point.
