Ivan Pavlov IV, a Russian born American scientist, and great great great great grandson of the famous Russina scientis Ivan Pavlov released a study today that mimics his famous forefathers work.
As you may recall, Ivan Pavlov showed the impact that repeated stimulus can have on dogs. In his experiments he noted that dogs immediately started salivating whenever he rang a bell after they had become accustomed to being fed right after the bell. Evn when there is no food present, they will salivate by instinctual.
Ivan Pavlov IV's work extends that to human subjects, where he has shown that the Press immediately salivates whenever Sarah Palin tweets, speaks, facebooks or does pretty much ANYTHING. Even when Sarah Palin does nothing of consequence, adds an opinion of no import, mutters something inane and pointless, the press are ready to gobble it up, report it, and analyze the importance of it.
Pavlov IV points out that,
The press were conditioned to follow Sarah Palin's various escapades when she was surprisingly selected to be John McCain's running mate. The press latched onto her due in part to John McCain's inability to be interesting, the relative unknown quality about her and the fact that she seemed to be very oblivious to the fact she was dumb as a stump.
However, once the election ended and Palin quit as Governor, one would normally expect that there would be little interest in the unemployed idiot. But the press had become conditioned to seek out Mrs. Palin, to continue to give her an importance far out of proportion to reality.
Pavlov IV has called this the Palin Press Effect (PPE), and Pavlov has noted the same effect with the Press and Kim Kardashian, Charlie Sheen, and Paris Hilton. Although those cases were shorter-lived and involved the press attributing far less credibility. In those cases the press was not conditioned to see the people as important, while the case of Sarah Palin, the conditioning during
the election clearly modified their rational behavior into an irrational coverage of every LITTLE DAMN THING THE WOMAN DOES OR SAYS
.
One would think the conditioning would dissipate with negative reinforcement, but it has not and this brings up a secondary effect, not noted by the original Pavlov, group response, when one member of the press starts salivating, they all do, like dogs....stupid, stupid dogs.
How to break this learned behaviour. It is unknown at this time, but one hopes that when Mrs. Palin gets trounced in the primaries it will end....but this reporter doubts it.
