I got an extra ten days of righteously rising to the defense of one of the few people, in a position of any power, who has vigorously risen to the defense of my values and beliefs.
I spent many hours scouring the internet to learn about the perils of new media.
I got a much better perspective of just how salacious our primary sources of information have become.
I came to understand that self-righteousness, prudishness, hypocrisy, distrust, schadenfreude, disloyalty, prurience, and arrogance are the province of no single ideology or political party.
I was reminded that even the noblest among us have feet of clay and can track in a lot of mud when they are trying to dig themselves out of a hole.
And thanks, Congressman. Because for those extra days, while you were wrestling with how to spare your wife, your constituents, your causes, the institution you serve in, and, yes, yourself, the embarrassing truth, I was reminded of This Guy:

It's not going to be easy for you from here on out, but I sincerely hope you can weather this.
This may not be your proudest moment, but you have done us proud many times.
