Too small for disclosure?
Earlier this year, Facebook
asked the FEC for an exemption to campaign disclosure laws when it comes to small sponsored ads on their site. The issue, Facebook said, is that their ads are too small to contain full disclosure, and they should be granted the same exemption offered to text messages and buttons.
In a new advisory opinion, the FEC rejected Facebook's request for a blanket exemption. The FEC did grant what amounts to a partial victory for Facebook, however: using the same standard as Google Ad Sense ads, as long as the page to which the ads link contains a full and proper disclaimer, the ads will be considered proper.
