I really have more important things to do then to spend my time in these pie fights. But, my character is being assassinated so here goes.
Well, first as many commenters stated the assassination diary is a misrepresentation of my diary. My diary never stated that the homeless should not receive food stamps and neither did any of the comments. The diary was about the question of food stamps being used for fast food. I deleted it because facts didn't seem to matter to the diarist who wrote the assassination diary or to most of the commenters on that diary.
I read all the comments in the assassination diary and only saw 3 comments that related to solving the problem of homelessness and food for the homeless. One stated that toilet paper and soap should be allowed as purchases on food stamps. OK sounds good. Another suggested microwave ovens should be available in laundermats and other convenient places. Good suggestion. This one was the best comment:
Now, having read the other diary... (7+ / 0-)
perhaps a more positive way to approach this is looking at the folks who have real restaurants that cater to the homeless in a dignified manner...
Organic "soup kitchen"

Most of the other 252 comments were comment rants save for some who were telling the diarist that she misrepresented the first diary
Many of us on this site are real activists. I think I was born an activist. I don't just talk or grip I try to find a solution. My diary pointed out some facts from these sources:

http://www.ajcn.org/...
Highest rates of obesity and diabetes in the United States are found among the lower-income groups. The observed links between obesity and socioeconomic position may be related to dietary energy density and energy cost.
Energy-dense foods and energy-dense diets have been blamed for the global obesity epidemic (1-5). In a number of studies, fast foods (6-9), snacks, sweets, and desserts (10, 11), sweetened soft drinks (12-14), and large portion sizes (15, 16) have all been linked to greater obesity risk.
http://www.cdc.gov/...
Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years. The prevalence of obesity among children aged 6 to 11 years increased from 6.5% in 1980 to 19.6% in 2008. The prevalence of obesity among adolescents aged 12 to 19 years increased from 5.0% to 18.1%.1,2
Obese youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. In a population-based sample of 5- to 17-year-olds, 70% of obese youth had at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease.5
Children and adolescents who are obese are at greater risk for bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and social and psychological problems such as stigmatization and poor self-esteem.3,6
Obese youth are more likely than youth of normal weight to become overweight or obese adults, and therefore more at risk for associated adult health problems, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, several types of cancer, and osteoarthritis.6
Are you who have children satisfied with these figures? Don't you think that we should try to give children a healthier and better future?
Here is another link I used
My diary was about fast food lobbyists trying to get the state legistlature in Kentucky to approve fast food for food stamp purchases
In 2010, Kentucky was ranked number seven in the U.S. in terms of obesity rates, with over 30 percent of obese adults. Childhood obesity and Type 2 diabetes are also on the rise here. Critics say these numbers will only go up if low-income families are enticed to spend their food stamps at hamburger joints.
Is this the kind of future you want for your children?
Now I agree when hunger is paramount just any food will suffice, no one is disputing that. But we also need to look at the cycle of poverty and health and to try to make improvements so that our countries children can have a better future.
Did you know that Children in the US have shorter life expectancy than their parents due to obesity? Go ahead read the link that way you can have the facts. Are you satisfied with that? Do you not mind that children today will lead sicker and shorter lives than their parents?
One thing that kept coming up in the assassination dairy comments was food deserts. How are the homeless supposed to get food when there are no stores? Look at this information. That is a place to put your energy rather than is a useless, fact-less rant.

The next time you enjoy a delicious piece of fresh summer fruit, take a moment to think of the folks across town. How easily can they choose fresh fruit over a fruit-flavored soft drink? Then write your representative (and sign up here to stay updated) to tell him or her you want to see full funding for the Healthy Food Financing Initiative, so it can start to get to work in your community.
I've been writing a series here on Daily Kos Meatless Monday every Monday for the past three years. You don't want to hear about it because it tells you what to eat...like food police? Just check it out or ask a regular. It's about learning how to prepare and eat healthy and CHEAP food. Most of the recipes are easy, healthy and cheap. Buying simple food and preparing it is much cheaper than purchasing fast food.
I often hear some here say that they came for the politics and stayed for the community. I think I can say I came for the politics and issues and left because of the community.
