My Three Stooges is how I've come to refer to my Senators and Congressman. I live in AZ06 so that would be John McCain, Jon Kyl, and Jeff Flake. Check below the fold for emails I sent them tonight.
Dear Congressman Flake,
I just finished watching the CBS Evening News. They had a segment on the debt ceiling. The key point I want to strive is $850 billion, yes nearly a trillion dollars, over the next 10 years is what it would cost the treasury in increased interest payments if our government defaults.
If you are serious about reducing the deficit, you'll convince your colleagues in the Republican caucus to end this game of chicken and pass a measure to raise the debt ceiling now. If you are serious about reducing the federal deficit, you will not risk costing the treasury another $85 billion a year because you and your caucus are unwilling to compromise. The president has offered a plan to reduce the long term deficit by $4 trillion. All you have to do is take yes for answer.
Sincerely, gaarvark
And because I'm in an equal opportunity bitchy mood, I also sent a message to the White House.
Please ask the president to read
My point is it's both parties do not share equal blame for our economic mess. Since Ronald Reagan it has been a strategy of the Republican party to run up the debt to bring us to this crisis.
The budget was balanced when Bill Clinton left office. When Nancy Pelosi became speaker the Democrats put in a policy of "PayGo". If Republican's were serious about reducing the deficit all they had to do was maintain the Clinton level of taxes and pay down the debt. They chose not to.
So let's summarize.
Democrats balance the budget and make sure the proposals are paid for. Republican run up the debt like there is no tomorrow.
Please share your thoughts with
your Three Stooges and try to end this insanity.
