I am what many of you would call a black person. I consider myself to be bi-racial if that is a proper technical term but I fully understand the responsibility and challenges that come with having this wonderful hue. I've spent my life in small town Canada, big city America, and the in between areas.
I'm qualifying this because I have a guilty pleasure that I believe is somewhat related. I check up on Herman Cain from time to time:(...
I know, I know....but I do, I like to see how far America has come since Barack's election and so I was cruising politico and saw he spent...I mean "raised" $2.46M last quarter but I also saw that a couple of his Iowa staff resigned (my dog just farted and it stunk so bad I lost my internet connection).
Anywho...as I scrolled down the page I came across another blip and it kind of through me for a loop...
Not because this thing is unexpected but the article in politico made a good point, that three years later, that the color of my skin and in this case Obama's skin color and who he beat and the power that he holds really rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
Now I don't know this woman but the fact that she was so dedicated to stop President Obama from happening and the fact that his skin color is still an issue for her is just a bit more than concerning for me.
"Well republicans are racist." one says, and I say, "I don't doubt that, but this lady was no republican."
I also don't know how much she raised for Clinton and this truly isn't about Hillary, but I have to believe that if one of her top fundraisers is still taking shots like this at Obama three years later that it was more common than that inside her fundraising camp.
This is the quote they grabbed...
She said she is still registered as a Democrat, but considers herself independent and won’t support the party as long as Obama is president.
“America needs a president who understands the special sauce of what it is that makes this country great,” she said. “The fact of his personal story of being half black and all that is a wonderful, inspiriting story. But it doesn’t qualify him to be president.”
It is stuff like this that really scares me. I'm not scared of GOP racists, I expect that. It's these people in the middle, it's these people that are democrats who give money to people that were half a step away from becoming the president of the U.S. and expect MY vote that scare the shit out of me.
We often have conversations about race and what qualifies as racism, and some of us are accused of playing the card for simply mentioning the possibility of racism on the left. I think that the evidence is continuing to grow, that cries of racism from within the democratic party need to be considered with a higher level of seriousness going forward, rather than dismissing such claims outright.
She hosted a fundraiser for Huntsman that raised $1.2M last week, all in an effort to stop Obama. Regardless of party she set her sights against him personally and won't support the democratic party until he is gone.
With the addition of a Deoliver47(I hope it's okay I put your name in here) to the staff I certainly hope that the voices of minorities within the democratic party will continue to be heard and even more important(from my perspective) heeded.
This isn't directed at anyone in particular here or Hillary Clinton but I think it will be important for the future of the party. The more Americans get educated the more likely they are to have ideas of their own and with consistent votes from minority communities across the board for the democratic party, we don't want to risk losing support because we don't want to deal with some ugly truths.
UPDATE:
Some of you seem to be missing the point. I will take some blame for that but if you are viewing this as a personal attack on you and the left, you probably should not be reading this. This isn't about defining who is, or what the left is. It's about influence and how close it gets. This type of attitude affects different people in different ways.
